During October and November the George Adams Gallery will exhibit new works by Lesley Dill. Lesley Dill: New Sculpture is the artist's fourth show with the gallery since 1995 and features works completed in 2000. These sculptures represent a departure from the photo-based works of her two previous shows here, although she continues to focus on language and the human figure.
The current show features large and small-scale sculpture made from cast, folded, cut, and collaged paper; several of the works are free-standing, others hang on the wall. For example, Hindi Girl with Kafka, the largest work in the show, is a 6 x 4 x 1 foot wall mounted paper sculpture of a female figure formed from three torsos and pairs of legs that were cast from life. All is Double and We Live in Smoke, are two smaller, free-standing sculptures made in paper covered with asemi-transparent white solution that suggests marble. In addition there are two paper wall pieces incorporating cast paper hands out of which emanate delicate tea-stained leaves and words stitched together with threads. The smallest works in the show are a series of five small cast paper hands, each incorporating words that extend out from the fingers or palms.
